Systems Engineer - Aviation Products
Summary
The Systems Engineer is responsible for integrated avionics system architecture design, development, integration, test and certification. Avionics Systems to be covered include cockpit control/displays, communication, navigation and mission functionality. Provides technical and engineering support for product pursuits and program execution.
Responsibilities
Involvement in new product and system development and/or proposal activities with focus on integrated avionics architectures.
Conduct trade-off studies and makes recommendations on advanced avionics system architectures.
Execute and maintain Systems Engineering processes including, requirement analysis and specification, statement of works, functional allocation, hardware/software integration, systems integration, system test and certification.
Performs system trade studies, system requirements validation and capture/flow-down, flight deck operational philosophy development, architecture development, design reviews, and integration and certification planning.
Interfaces with Customers, Supplies and Authorities to provide technical guidance, resolve technical and certification issues and questions.
Addresses technical discussion for Issues/Problems and provide recommendations for resolution; identifies program impacts and prepares technical descriptions for bid packages.
Work closely with third-party avionics suppliers to ensure successful equipment integration and performance within the core avionics systems.
Work collaboratively within a project team of committed professionals.
May involve travel.
Qualifications
Minimum Bachelor of Electrical or Computer Engineering; advanced degrees or equivalent experience preferred with a minimum 5 years of experience in complex avionics systems.
Relevant avionics experience and knowledge of fixed wing fighter or trainer aircraft requirements.
Good knowledge of civil and/or military specification standards and practices: DO-178 (or equivalent), DO-254, DO-160, MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461.
Individual must have prior experience with some of these avionics systems: Display Systems, FMS, GPS, INS, Navigation Radios, Communication Radios, Transponders, TCAS, TAWS, SVS, weapon systems and Audio Systems.
Experience with ARINC 653 would be an asset.
Knowledge of avionics data bus: ARINC 429, MIL-STD 1553 or others.
Working knowledge of FAA TSO, FARs, AC and STC regulations and procedures.
Working knowledge and experience using requirements and design tools such as DOORS, MATLAB/SIMULINK, VAPS, VISIO, UML
